Dr Leibowitz brings over 25 years of broad experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, and in the life and physical sciences.
His career began at Schering-Plough Corporation where he founded biotechnology and led its growth into one of the industry’s leading forces. Dr. Leibowitz built discovery and development programs for small molecules and biologics in several therapeutic areas and played a pivotal role in the research and development of Intron A from inception through presentations at the USFDA and international regulatory authorities in support of worldwide launch.
Dr. Leibowitz was CSO of TSI Corporation which was the fifth largest independent preclinical and clinical contract research organization in the world. While at TSI, he developed research and product development strategies enabling the founding of Exemplar Corporation where research from his laboratories in Alzheimer’s disease resulted in widespread media coverage.
Over the course of his career, he has been instrumental in the raise-up equity investments for private and public companies, including the arrangement of a PIPE financing and the IPO of a US biotechnology company on London’s AIM. He served as Managing Director, Life Sciences and Healthcare of a financial services company headquartered in New York, co-founded and was Chairman of a US-based healthcare dietary supplement business that was sold in 2004 to a healthcare company, and was a founding board member of a private marine and fresh water biotechnology company at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.
Prior to the founding of Bloodstone Ventures plc, Dr. Leibowitz was President of Redding Consulting Group, Inc. where he advised public and private companies on strategic, operating, and product development matters on therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, diabetes, and infectious diseases, drug delivery systems, vaccines, diagnostics, devices, blood purification, marine biology, and free electron lasers for various industrial, defense, and medical applications.
In 2003, Dr Leibowitz was appointed to the patent review board of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute where he gained in-depth experience in academic technology portfolio management. He adapted existing models of public venture capital companies to American research universities which led to the founding of Bloodstone Ventures.
Dr. Leibowitz received his Ph.D. from the biology department of the State University of New York at Buffalo in the areas of atomic energy and particle physics, and postdoctoral training in genetics and molecular biology at Tufts Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
